About the Artist

Leslie Dorcus is a fourth year student in Printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design. She has also taken courses in painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006, as well as a printmaking course at the School of the Arts International in Florence, Italy during the summer of 2008. The summers of 2005-2007 were spent working as an art instructor and counselor at Med-o-lark, an arts camp in Washington, ME.

During the summer of 2009, Leslie worked as an intern at the non-toxic printmaking studio, Zea Mays (www.zeamaysprintmaking.com). As an intern, she worked as a teacher’s assistant, curator, and scientist, experimenting with different acrylic aquatint grounds and techniques.

She grew up in the small town of Keene, NH, and has shown her work around in some of Keene’s local venues, and has done a few commissions.

She is also extremely driven by music, and has recorded many hours of piano, accordian, kazoo, harmonica, stick string, 4 string de-tuned guitar, indian flute, and bagpipe chanter music on her four track tape recorder. (If anyone is interested in such an album, contact Leslie at ldorcus@g.risd.edu for information).
